Rape Response provides support services for survivors of sexual violence. Rape Response volunteers meet with survivors at Birmingham area emergency departments and the Crisis Centers Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Facility and stay with them until they are discharged, providing emotional support and practical information. The Jefferson County Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program provides several case management services which are made available to the families of children diagnosed with elevated blood lead levels. The program provides information about primary and secondary lead poisoning prevention including sources of lead, health effects, reducing lead exposure in the home, safely working with lead, disposal of lead-contaminated waste, health care and nutritional resources, as well as community outreach training. Patients are often referred to other services such as WIC and Early Intervention.
