Mental Health Training For Gadsden Police Officers

Gadsden police have undergone some training from mental health professionals.

The entire police department--from the chief to the newest rookie--underwent eight hours of training through the CED Mental Health Center.

The officers learned how to help people who are in crisis, to get help.

"The training covers stuff as far as like, how to identify individuals in mental health crisis, not to diagnose but to identify and assist them in connecting them to resources to get them help when necessary," Sgt. John Hallman said.

Other departments have trained some of their staff. Etowah County's Sheriff's Office, for instance, had a class for its commanders.
